The artists show a big social commitment, either politically affiliated or not, they let their art, through its motifs or subject, change the debate and through that contribute to changes in society.

The exhibition reflects a time when the distribution of art changed and the view of what an artwork could be was broadened, which led to that the demand for traditional and accepted material and techniques began to loosen.

Curator Eje Högestätt writes in the exhibition catalogue:

“Can the “multiplier”, this the artist’s new mode of expression, gather the strength of a wave washing over and levelling the sandcastle of status and fetish worship in the arts? If I believed so earlier, I know begin to doubt, after having wandered around Paris studios and received not only things but also insurance and price details. (…) But the debate around art and its market cannot die down and if the “multiplier” (and this exhibition) can give it more fuel, that is something.”
