Alexander Bäckman grew up in Västerhaninge on the outskirts of Stockholm and is attending his second year at Konstfack’s bachelor’s Fine Arts program.

This work is dedicated to the story of Lars Peter Couse, born in the later half of the 18th century, buried on this slope that he is named after and whose consumption of strong drinks did not benefit his profession.

Andy Allen-Olivar was born in Bogotá, Colombia, raised in Oxford, England and in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He studied Fine Art, Photography and Documentary Film-making in London and then in Sweden where he now lives, studies and works. Before working in the Arts he worked in the Postal Industry.

Your body slowly slides into the water and the soft cool embraces your skin, you take a swimming stroke, two, you let the water clear your senses, you are weightless, you are one with the water, with everyone who passed here before you and everyone who will come after. The creation of the allmänning affects time and space, like an opening of places evoked by floating wood in water next to bathing senses raving of spa-like experiences. 

Is this place yours to occupy? 

An old spa resort offers its services to the public, a people’s spa by the waterside, a raft in the canal carrying everything that the residents require, watching 40 boats per day pass and seven continents, in a moment I will be gone again.

Jens Masimov (b.1993 in Hedemora) is an multimedia artist working with ritualistic distortion through mixing video, audio, sculptures and performances in spatial installations. He will graduate from the Masters program in fine art At konstfack in 2022 and have a BA(Hons) degree from The Glasgow School of Art.

Malin Lin Nordström (b. 1984, Hallstahammar) works with relational pieces, immersive experiences and installations with video, sound and text. She is interested in the common and the shared from political, social and existential perspectives. She has previously studied at Tromsø Art Academy and will graduate from the MFA Fine Arts program at Konstfack in 2022.

A gap runs along the middle of the bridge. The bascule is opened on demand with the exception of rush hour. Paradise alley around the corner. A non-verbal examination of language and a light blue streak is based on the different languages in Södertälje and is a sculptural examination of wounds, seams and the strength of multilingualism. The work is part of Keisus and Thuresson’s long-term project on assimilation and linguistic oppression in relation to their own mother tongues Meänkieli and Swedish Sign Language.

Karin Keisu (b.1995, Tornedalen) and Josse Thuresson (b.1992, Stockholm) are a duo who work artistically and curatorially with language, collective processes and narratives from the margins. Their work centers learning and poetic interruptions through text, performativity, film and installation. They have previously studied at the National Academy of the Arts in Oslo and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna.

“With my tactile tiles I imitate the city’s strategies to lead. They extend the already existing paths streaming through the city centre. As well as being a physical guide for some, they form islands to draw attention to changes in the architecture, for all.”

Leonie Dahlström’s processes often starts in found objects or structures as catalysts. They contain questions, regarding function of structures and what their agenda could be. Exploring the shape can be a way of clarifying these questions. By using repetition as a method of both clarifying and abstracting structures, the idea of it expands.

“During a lecture, I heard about a vision to inform the future, as well as plans to take care of and preserve what already exists in the city. Something that was described as Södertälje’s place dna. That became my focus. To work like them, based on their aspirations. My work can take many material forms, but central is the imagination in collaboration with my previous experiences. A desire to process and take care of something important.”

Måns Palmgren is in his second year of Konstfack’s bachelor’s program in Fine Art.

A series of art works examining industrial landscapes and transactions of the city through the container tracks in the harbour. From there the different pieces further examine tracks, cartography and non-human presence in and through different spaces in Södertälje.

Pontus’ upbringing on a small dairy farm, together with an interest in botany shapes his viewpoints and in turn his artistic practise and research. He works mainly with text; venturing into sculpture, installation and performance.

A bus stop in Södertälje, where normally consumer aimed information boasts, shows this piece of text and photography.

Such fragility must break is a poem and a photograph that takes place at the Mälar bridge, but really is about the salt stock in the harbour. Or about wrath, to not get killed in traffic and a lost pair of mittens. The bus stop: a place of waiting for a ride, a stop between rides, is in itself an installation but also a democratic space for public art.

Sofia Runarsdotter (b 1982, Robertsfors) has worked as a documentary photographer for 15 years in Sweden and abroad. She is working with themes such as gaze, time, landscape and identity. Her practise includes photography, video and text.

Towa Palovaara i samarbete med My Bengtsson

A created space inside one container. A space that reaches from the port of Södertälje to the port of Trondheim. The space is about the flow of people and also exporting and importing connected in time. After exhibiting in Södertälje the container will be transported to Trondheim and exhibited there.

Towa Palovaara works primarily with sculpture but also painting. Your own practice is from an investigation of materials linked to nature. She is interested in the interaction between the hard and the soft. The work in the studio switches between laying and removal.

Towa likes the idea of creating something that brings to mind nature, without it necessarily need to recreate existing things.

The exhibition is done in collaboration with My Bengtsson, who is in her second year at Trondheim Academy of Fine Art. My Bengtsson works with the theme of human interaction with nature, the theme of landscape and examines the attraction to the untamed. Projections allow new rooms to be built that expand physical space.
