“As a basic theme, we chose some of our common denominators in art: reflections, silence, volatility and light, how the inner space is reflected in the outer and the outer space in the inner.”

This is how the two friends and artist colleagues Rita Jokiranta, (Åland) and Hjördis Haack, (Denmark) explained the intention of their exhibition. “Others often see surprising similarities in our images, even though we work in different directions and with different media. So, the idea of exhibiting together came quite naturally. We were curious to discover what the meeting between painting and photography could result in and also wanted to see how our images would work together.” They chose to invite the artists Peter Svedberg (Sweden) and Elena Näsänen (Finland) as co-exhibitors, given that they could have an interesting dialogue with their work. Thus, the exhibition’s Nordic quartet was also complete.

-How do Haack, Jokiranta, Näsänen or Svedberg interpret what they see in obscurity and light reflections? Art is a searching and reflective and the artists’ inner maps must therefore be constantly redrawn. Map images that have the opportunity to guide us through the mirror images of life. Writes Göran Pettersson, as curator of the exhibition and Södertälje konsthall.
