-How can different people see the same thing and still retell completely different things? This is something that fascinates us both. How we humans read in different meanings in what we see and experience, based on each person’s history and baggage.

Gunilla Leander’s video works, photographs and sound works ask questions about what our bodies and voices convey. In one of the video works, we meet a young man with a bare torso. He changes facial expressions. It is broken by a negative image. A new emotional state at the same time as he extends his hand in the same repetitive position. A work that created discussions among the viewers. How different we can experience an expression, or if the open hand even creates confusion when the eyes say something else. Experiencing someone as trustworthy can for another evoke the feeling of wanting to escape.

In Relaxation news – a soundtrack, a woman reads the news. The visitor could sit down in a recliner with a parasol, put on headphones with relaxing music, but what do we really hear? Most noticeably or unpleasantly, the world comes close. What we hear or feed into our consciousness every day casually, or with or without reflection.

In Gunilla Wiel-Svensson’s paintings in a smaller format that were shown at the art gallery, there was a slight shift in images placed next to each other. The story takes a new direction “The gaze and the photographic image taken in a moment, see and reproduce an authentic second. This is where the beginning takes shape, with a lot of inputs and ambiguities. A section a place, what does it reflect, what do you see and reflect, what is narrated? What happens in, between or outside the image?… We see, then we realize what we saw or did not see. How receptive are we to what we see and perceive and whose story may apply? ”. With the camera as a sketch pad, she has searched through different environments, created these shifts which have since been carried out as paintings. In the installation Sight, the moment catches an ice floe. Water slowly drips into a pool on the art gallery floor. The ice floe with crumbled styrofoam and construction waste, gives a chain of thoughts. Is it beautiful or ugly? She asks herself the question -What happens between the eye and contemporary questions? A probability or a delusion?
