NUEVO ESTOCOLMO was one of a series of exhibitions with young artists from Sweden, Finland and Iceland. A collaboration between each country with 5 participants from each country who participated in all exhibitions. Then 10 extra artists were invited from the country where the next exhibition took place.
The title of Södertälje Art Gallery’s exhibition Nuevo Estocolmo referred to Lasse Åberg’s film The Social Journey. The name of the hotel in the Canary Islands where the holidaymakers were located.
“The similarities are usually greater than the differences in the Nordic countries. Based on where the name Nuevo Estocolmo comes from, in our context it can be interpreted as a desire to constantly long for home. The exhibition series is a way, on the initiative of artists, to show a selection of interesting artistry in the same generation in different stages of their careers. To show a complex heterogeneous exhibition, not only based on different Nordic nationalities but also in terms of attitudes to exhibition situations and artistic activities.”
