Invitation letter to the artists:
In Södertälje konsthall we are planning a theme exhibition that will illuminate the environment of our time. Nationally and internationally. The theme is so broad that you can if you want to defend any work of art under that heading. But the intention is for the objects to illuminate our situation today and not tomorrow’s. So no future images.
Many times you do not see the seriousness of today’s situation because tomorrow’s fictional reality overshadows today’s problems. The notion that the really big problems would lie in the future is an equally common and dangerous attitude. “After us the Fall” – thought. Unfortunately, it is well that the fall is going on right now and we are part of it.
The exhibition is scheduled for about 1.st of May to 1.st of June 1970. Södertälje konsthall pays for catalogs, posters and other printing and advertising costs. Shipping after certain arrangements and arrangements.
Unfortunately, we do not have the opportunity to reimburse the participants with rent for the objects, but personally I think it is better that we are responsible for the expenses than that the exhibitors would be reimbursed for their work and bear the shipping costs themselves.
Are you interested in joining?

Response from one of the artists:
Brother!
The planned theme exhibition in May seems very interesting to me and I would like to participate with some oil paintings. I’m glad that the theme deals with our time and environment, the issues that on the one hand have become so popular and almost prostitutes – something of a fad – and on the other hand the real motive, which can mean a small chance for humanity to basically analyze its situation in order to synchronize our daily existence and our hundreds of thousands of years old bodies with the physical-technical bi-evolution that today, disproportionate to man’s individual aspirations, shapes both his private and the common living environment before man as a biological being has time to change or promise in and experience the environment that suits her.
Our time does not constitute a particular boundary in the history of mankind, but is only one of the many picturesque forms of the absurdity of ancient mankind, which have already appeared in our history in so many and evil forms. If we can´t analyze our situation, we can´t survive either, and today’s ideal may be the man Albert Camus writes about – the absurd man – who goes to the end in his discoveries of absurdities, wants to be free from all hope but still serve man and receive death.
I am especially happy that the exhibition will address the environment we now live in, because even though I have settled here for good five years ago and significantly changed my way of living, as a stranger I have almost no real chance to show my opinions and work. The worst thing would be to criticize our own environment, which is generally considered (figuratively speaking) everyone’s property except the foreigners’.
Because I am very interested possibly to find out a little more detail about the exhibition, I will contact you by phone.
Incidentally, I can mention that I now illustrate in Studio Frank, Stockholm, tel. 08/313219.
