The very idea for the exhibition coincided with the Swedish Handicraft Association turning one hundred years, and was celebrated with a number of handicraft exhibitions around the country.

“OUR EXHIBITION IDEA IS BASED ON HISTORICAL, CONTEMPORARY AND FORWARDING EMBROIDERY. The historical part comes from Torekällberget’s museum and private collectors. Air embroidery, pearl embroidery, machine embroidery, wool embroidery, embroidered sculptures, treasure stitch, dispute stitch, chain stitch, cross stitch, stalk stitch, crow kick and more. ”

Of the fourteen invited artists, tradition and innovation were shown in a wide spectrum. Everything from embroideries in sculptural forms such as flowers of sewing thread swinging in the air by Ulrika Berge to Per Fhager’s use of traditional techniques such as flat stitching and cross stitch with wool yarn, but the motifs were taken from the computer game world.

The other artists were Anna Sjons Nilsson, Anna-Lena Rydberg, Birgit Nygren, ClaesMikael Svensson, Cristina Åbrink, Elizabet Christiansson, Evelina Sjöström, Gunilla Wänn, Jennie McMillen, Jonas Karén, Lolitta Nedoman and Teresa Oscarsson.

In the exhibition was also the part “tokbrodöserna” from Södertälje who showed and inspired on site. Täcklebo Embroidery Academy is the nationwide embroidery association where the “crazy embroidery boxes” are included.

-Our common passion is the fantastic opportunities of free embroidery. It gives us the freedom to create stories and images in an artistic and playful way, examine structures and use our imagination, writes Hanna Andersson, one of the group’s members. -Sometimes we sew our stitches together on pieces of fabric that we send between us. The visitors got to try and participate.
