What is the value of art? And when does art get its value? If at all?
This is one of the basic questions that the German artist Tim Beeby touches on in his action- a three-day event consisting of 130 paintings. In an otherwise empty art space, 130 paintings are on display. As a visitor, you are welcome to select a painting and take it home, free of charge. Or you can buy it directly from the artist, at market price, and get it signed, dated and numbered. For Södertälje konsthall, Tim Beeby has created “130 canvases for Södertälje”.
The artist Tim Beeby will be on site throughout the whole period, which has the following opening hours:
Thursday 3 October 12-6pm
Friday 4 October 12-6 p.m
Saturday 5 October 11 a.m – 4 p.m
The action ends on Saturday 5 October at 2 pm with a conversation between Tim Beeby and Maja-Lena Molin, Artistic Director, Södertälje konsthall.
About the exhibition:
The exhibition consists of works on canvas, all of which are unsigned, untitled, and undated. The works are hung on the wall and/or presented in stacks against the wall. Visitors are invited to select a canvas to take away with them free of charge.
Alternatively, visitors can have their canvas signed, titled, and dated by the artist and acquire it in the conventional manner at market price. Those works that are purchased will be photographically recorded and all details entered into a digital catalogue. In addition, a certificate of authenticity will be issued to the purchaser. Those works that remain unsigned will not be individually photographed, catalogued or registered by any other means.
In terms of materials used and aesthetic value, the unsigned and signed groups of work are indistinguishable.
