Textiles have always played a big part in african culture and in our everyday life, weather used as a form of communication, to showcase the different class and status in society or celebrating the different rites of passage from when a child is born till when we die.

My work is a celebration of black culture, unheard voices, of old traditions in a modern context, and it showcases our heritage and handcraft. It allows me to learn about the hidden history of our arts and crafts in the continent and to interpret it and give it new meaning. I see it as a way of reclaiming our stories making them accessible to future generations.

The bold, geometric patterns are inspired by traditional patterns in African basketry, pottery, murals and beading to express the untold stories of indigenous Southern African craft in vivid, visceral form. And patterns from the Kumba textiles of the congo. They are meticulously handcrafted by artisans in the Cape and Lima using 100% South African-grown mohair and Peruvian sheep wool. Empowered by their handicraft, these artisans hand spin and dye the raw fibre using trusted techniques to ensure exceptional quality and durability.
